To use these functions, first select the files (or folders) of interest within the search or file report detail view. Please note that you can hold the CTRL key down to select multiple files in the detail report, or the SHIFT key to select a range of files.
After you've selected one or more files, click the Copy, Move, Delete, or Archive button in the toolbar. The File Operations dialog will appear, allowing you to specify the target folder for move, copy, and archive operations.
Important: We strongly recommend that you create functional, reversible backups before making any changes to your file system(s).
File Operations Dialog Options
A range of options are available within the File Operations dialog, as follows:
•Create target directories if they don't already exist - This option allows FolderSizes to create folders targeted by move, copy, or archive (zip) operations if they don't already exists.
•When zipping, delete original files after adding them to zip file - This option will use the Recycle Bin setting described below.
•Delete to the Windows Recycle Bin when possible - Please note that deletions to the Windows Recycle Bin may not be possible in some circumstances, such as when deleting items from a network share. The standard Windows operating system rules applies to such operations.
•When moving or copying files, retain original folder structure - This option will automatically re-create intermediate folders present when moving or copying files and folders to a new location.
•Copy security attributes when performing cross-volume move operations - Copy the security attributes of the source item to the destination item when performing cross-volume move operations. Without this option, the destination item receives the security attributes of its new folder. Requires Vista or later.
•Log file operations to - Here you can supply the fully qualified path to a text-based log (.log) file to which file processing events will be logged. Please note that the log file will be appended if it already exists, otherwise it will be created anew.
•If destination file exists - Choose an option for handling file name conflicts during move or copy operations.
