Ribbon Bar

The FolderSizes main window uses a ribbon bar to expose features and functions to users.

The ribbon bar is organized into three permanent tabs — Home, Tools, and Help — plus a File button and two contextual tabs that appear when certain views are active.

File Button

The File button opens a panel providing access to core file operations:

  • Load / Save / Compare Scan Data (XML) —manage saved file system analysis data
  • Trend Analyzer —launch the Trend Analyzer
  • Print —print report, print preview, and print setup
  • Export —export folder size report data, drive space data, chart images, or send to clipboard
  • Exit

Home Tab

The Home tab contains the most frequently used features for file system analysis and results management.

  • Results —load, save, and compare scan data; print reports
  • Analysis —launch File Reports, the Disk Reporter, Search, and Scan Filter
  • Export —export detail view data, chart images, drive space data, or copy to clipboard
  • Options —program options and Event Log
  • Layout —hide/pin/reset docking panels, toggle visibility of the Folder Browser, Drive Space, Scan Data, and Status Bar panels, and switch to Simplified Ribbon mode

Tools Tab

The Tools tab provides access to configuration, scheduling, snapshots, and system utilities.

Help Tab

The Help tab contains features for assistance, updates, and licensing.

Detail View Contextual Tab

This tab appears automatically when the Detail View is active, and provides controls specific to the detail grid.

  • Detail View —save/export data, copy to clipboard, set subfolder display depth, file size display mode, grid style, column chooser, show files toggle, and sorting
  • Heat Tint —toggle heat tint coloring by size, size on disk, files, or folders
  • Actions —open, show in Explorer, new folder, rename, delete, and properties for selected items

Charts Contextual Tab

This tab appears automatically when a chart view is active, and provides controls for chart customization.

  • General —save chart image, copy to clipboard, display mode, size on disk toggle, and chart palette
  • Bar —right-align labels, wide labels, and detailed bars options
  • Pie —control visible items, pie labels, and slice explosion
  • Folder Map —highlight mode, zoom, gradient fills, hue variations, rounded corners, and high detail options

Ribbon Tips

To minimize the ribbon bar, double-click one of its tabs. Once minimized, clicking a ribbon tab will reveal its contents. Double-click one of the tabs again to restore the ribbon bar.

The ribbon bar can also be switched to a Simplified mode via the Layout panel on the Home tab, which shows a single-row compact layout.

The ribbon bar provides excellent keyboard accessibility. Press and release the Alt key to show the "hot keys" for the ribbon bar tabs. Press the key(s) corresponding to a tab to show the hot keys for the individual commands. If more than one "hot key" letter appears, press the corresponding keyboard keys in succession to access that function.
